Sandtris is an innovative fusion of Tetris and falling sand physics simulations. Instead of rigid blocks that lock into place, the game features pieces made of particles that behave like sand, flowing and collapsing realistically when placed. This unique twist on the classic Tetris formula creates new strategic challenges as you try to clear lines with materials that don't behave quite like traditional blocks.

FAQ

Sandtris follows the core concept of Tetris with a sandy twist:

  1. Sand particles fall from the top of the screen in familiar Tetris-like shapes
  2. Unlike traditional Tetris, these pieces don't maintain their rigid structure when placed
  3. The sand particles obey physics - they will pile up, slide and collapse based on gravity
  4. Position your falling pieces to fill horizontal lines across the screen
  5. When a line is completely filled with sand particles, it will clear
  6. Your goal is to clear lines and prevent the sand from reaching the top of the screen
  7. As you progress, the game becomes faster and more challenging

The game requires a different strategy than traditional Tetris since you must account for how the sand will flow and settle after placement. Creating flat surfaces becomes a crucial skill!

Controlling the sand pieces in Sandtris is similar to classic Tetris:

Keyboard Controls:

  • Left/Right Arrow Keys: Move the falling piece horizontally
  • Down Arrow: Soft drop (accelerate the falling piece)
  • Up Arrow or X Key: Rotate the piece clockwise
  • Z Key: Rotate the piece counter-clockwise
  • Space Bar: Hard drop (immediately drop the piece)
  • P Key: Pause/resume the game
  • R Key: Restart the game

Touch Controls (Mobile):

  • Swipe Left/Right: Move the piece horizontally
  • Swipe Down: Soft drop
  • Tap: Rotate piece
  • Swipe Up: Hard drop

You can also click the fullscreen button in the top right to enjoy the game in fullscreen mode.

How is Sandtris different from regular Tetris?
Unlike traditional Tetris where blocks maintain their shape and lock firmly into place, Sandtris pieces are made of particles that behave according to physics. They can collapse, slide off each other, and fill spaces dynamically. This means you need to think about how the sand will settle after placement, requiring different strategies than regular Tetris.
What's the best strategy to clear lines in Sandtris?
Creating flat surfaces is crucial in Sandtris. Try to build even platforms for the sand to rest on rather than jagged surfaces which cause particles to slide off. Plan ahead for how pieces will collapse, and work on filling lines completely from the bottom up. Sometimes it's worth creating small gaps that will be filled naturally by sand falling from above.
Why do my pieces break apart when I place them?
That's the core mechanic of Sandtris! The pieces are made of sand particles that obey physics. Unlike traditional Tetris blocks, they don't maintain their shape when placed but instead behave like real sand would - flowing, piling up, and filling available spaces according to gravity.
Does the game get faster as I play longer?
Yes, just like traditional Tetris, the game gradually increases in speed as you clear more lines and reach higher levels. This progressive difficulty requires quicker thinking and faster reactions as you play longer. The physics-based nature of the sand adds an extra layer of challenge at higher speeds.
